Postcard - an advertising shot -taken of me by my Dad in St Thomas which was found for sale on E-bay by good friend Wendy Gordon who recognised me! We grew up together in St Thomas - I have 'won' the auction as I could not let this little piece of my history pass me by!!
March has been a busy month - but in a different way... no competitions but training hard, fund raising and generally taking stock - so there has been no shortage of things to do! Judy Lord with the assistance of a band of helpers organised a quiz night in early March. The evening was a tremendous success not only in terms of money raised - a whopping £830 profit towards the Paralympic Fund - but as a fun and entertaining evening generally. My thanks to all concerned - most of whom I forgot to mention on the night - not being used to making speeches!!! Jeremy Wood (Gill Maybury's husband) was a wicked quiz master - and has now added to his fan club! So many people donated raffle prizes which made that a great success too - it seems like most tables won at least one prize - most won 2!! But most of all we owe the evening to Judy who masterminded the whole project from buying the food, organising the hall, and even coming up with the very interesting - and varied (I won't say obscure in some cases!) questions. I have had tremendous feedback from everyone who attended the evening - safe to say a great time was had by all!
With the training sponsorship provided by TR Fastenings I have been able to resume - after a break of over a year - sessions with Michelle Coggins and 'Metal Mickey' - the mechanical horse. Previously I found this of immense value and once again it is proving an invaluable training tool - next session planned for next week - before I depart for the Moorsele (Belgium) international competition. I am so lucky that Michelle runs clinics so near to me - all the British Dressage squads use her expertise in their training and I am grateful for the chance to work with her on my position - getting tips on improving my core strength - and general fine tuning!!
But this month the lows - I have had to spend hours in the dentist chair having the tooth - that I cracked in 2 the day before we left for Spain - repaired and highs - we celebrated my grandfather's 99th birthday - have meant that I have had plenty to keep me occupied - while waiting for the all important notification from the IPC/FEI... do we have the green light for the Paralympics - or not?? The deadline passed for the entry on the 26th March and immediately the VI were contacted by LOCOG with more information/paperwork and deadlines - but this somehow feels encouraging - nevertheless I have to stay grounded and keep focused on my training in the meantime - April 9th is now not too far away!!
